A classic science fiction thriller by the author of "Solaris" — for the first time translated directly from the original. A starship from Earth is challenged by a mysterious hostile intelligence.
"Anybody who likes a tight, increasingly tense plot-line rising to a scene of dramatic violence will be satisfied. Anybody who likes a mystery will find it here — and its solution."
Ursula K. Le Guin
The Invincible eBook Stanislaw Lem
Lem may be one of the most underrated, under-appreciated science fiction authors of the 20th Century, and there may be a very good reason. His narrative is often chunky and involves newly minted words to describe something that hadn't been invented yet. Still, his exploration into the far reaches of interstellar travel know no bounds. For the uninitiated, The Invincible is a simple tale of a recon mission sent to discover and hopefully save the crew of a ship on a distant planet. What the second ship's crew finds occupies much of the book and Lem asks questions about the nature of being human that we have yet to comfortably answer.Sift through the narrative, and give the translator the benefit of the doubt and The Invincible could profoundly affect how you view yourself in the world and the Universe.

The Invincible eBook Stanislaw Lem Reviews
I remember reading this story when I was barely a teenager in Poland and it made me fall in love with science-fiction. I just read it for the second time in English and I can tell you that I wish there were follow up books to this one.
While some of the descriptions of the computers and ships are very archaic - once you get pass them, the story is very engaging.
Lem is a genius. He paints better with words than almost everyone. He sets the standard.
'The Invincible' is just about perfect. I hardly know what to say. It's science fiction that hits a more unique mark because it's so intelligent wrapped in what seems science fiction requisites in setting, motives... But Lem goes beyond expectations.
This is a must read, absolutely.
It's shameful that it has taken so long for a proper English translation of this novel. It's one of Lem's most gripping, tense and readable stories. It could even make a good movie, which isn't something you can say about many Lem novels.
I have always enjoyed Lem and was excited to find this early book of his. It reminds me of his later book Fiasco. A solid read and excellent sci fi. Lem is always inventive and thought provoking. Also, it is well translated.
The one star isn't for the book - the book is excellent. The star is for the false advertising - the version is not the new translation from the Polish, it's the old translation from the German.
The scientific jargon is intriguing, don't try to understand it... just play along. Beautiful imagery and downright frightening, a real turn pager. One of my fave authors ( read Solaris also ).
Highly exciting and a even a little terrifying over a fear of the Lovecraftian unknown; outside the confines of the spaceship ‘Invincible’ and its entourage of protective robots... what’s lurking out there?
