Final Justice A Romantic Suspense edition by Patricia Hagan Romance eBooks

Okay, I admit it. I bought this book because of the cover. Mmm. I expected a typical love story, some hot, steamy scenes (I mean, have you seen the cover?) and a HEA. Instead, I took a trip to 1960's Alabama, and was a participant of historical accuracy mixed in with a mystery all surrounding life.

Patricia Hagan did a remarkable job with the characters--and there were many. Yet not once was I jarred from the story in confusion. Lucus was a man, larger than life and with not so savory deeds tucked under that heavenly looking belt. And Emma Jean, as the female protagonist, was just as flawed. Yet they were so captivatingly human that there was no way I could just put the book down and say, oh, well, I'll finish it another time. I actually read it in one day. (I don't have much of a life...sigh)

Regardless, the characters were true to life, flawed and scarred. The plot was twisted and unfolded just like life does, with some certainty, some surprise, and a lot of allusions. And Ms. Hagan managed to convey that in her gripping story. I loved how Lucus made sure those he had a grudge with got their comeuppence and the ending only momentarily startled me, until the dust settled. Then it all made sense.

No contrivances, no weird "what was she thinking" moments. This was a well put together book and I look forward to reading her other works.

Final Justice A Romantic Suspense edition by Patricia Hagan Romance eBooks Reviews

Ok, so I liked the book and it kept me turning the pages, but come on with a picture like the one on the cover of this book a girl expects a little steamy romance. Yes, it had romance, mystery, lust and had a great story line, but for those looking for a little steamier romance or sexploits it kind of falls a little flat. Not to say a book has to have that all the time. Some people I know wont read a certain book if it has too many sex scenes or depictions so for those people this would be just fine. I was surprised at some of the comments in the book. It almost seemed like a man was writing it. It was hard for me to imagine some of the vulgarity or comments that the men made that a female would have written it, but maybe that is to her credit. I have read a lot of books and were left thinking...those men were "too perfect" or "too sissy" or "no way a guy would say that". Overall, I liked the book and sometimes I could predict what would happen but not all the time. Also, I loved the time period, the 1950's-1960's.
I really enjoyed this book. It was a bit long but wasn't filled with a lot of unimportant information, everything was relevant and held my interest. The main characters, Luke and Emma, were both caught in unhappy marriages and found each other. Don't want to give away too much. I think it was more of a romance novel than a mystery although there is a murder involved but is not a huge part of the story. I would recommend this to everyone. I like that there was no foul language nor graphic sex scenes. I will definitely be reading more buy this author.
SEEMS LIKE WHEN I WRITE A BAD REVIEW I GET NEGATIVE COMMENTS ABOUT USING U/C. I HAVE A VISION PROBLEM. AS FOR THIS BOOK, IT IS DEFINITELY A 5 STAR, WELL WRITTEN, ROMANCE, INTRIGUE, EVERYTHING ONE COULD WANT IN A GOOD STORY. AS USUAL, I SHALL LOOK FOR PATRICIA HAGAN'S BOOKS TO SEE IF SHE CAN EQUAL THIS ONE. SURELY HATED TO SEE IT END BUT I ENJOYED THE ENDING.
Above all else I loved this book because some slimy bad guys got their comeuppance and so well done. But seriously the book was well written it held your attention and Ms Hagan's description of life in the rural south in the early sixties was accurate. The small town teems with gossip, corruption, illegal alcohol, gambling and of course the KKK. Luke Ballard returns his small Alabama hometown after his mother's death. Luke's early life in the town had not been good. He had the misfortune of being born out of wedlock and for this the town forgave neither him or his mother. On her death bed his mother told him the real circumstances of his conception and he promises her that he will see that the people who caused her downfall would pay. Luke is back and is the new sheriff he sets about cleaning up the town. He meets Emma Jean who is the wife of his old high school nemesis and against his better judgement he gets involved in an affair with Emma Jean. Luke had been married before he left town for the army and his wife is a fourteen carat b---h who tricked in into marriage because she was pregnant and as Luke suspected he is not the father but he accepted the child. He had joined the army to get away from the wife who was a selfish, materialist gossiping piece of trash. Luke has his hands full handling a messed up town, a love affair, vicious wife and seeing that the bad guys get the final justice they deserve. He gets all of his problems taken care of in great style.
I really hate to give bad reviews but I purchased this book because of the good reviews and thought that I should counter that by giving an alternate opinion. The writer is very talented hence the two stars for my review instead of the one I wanted to give it. Her story telling skills are fine it is the material that is lacking. The characters are beyond flawed. They are selfish and self-centered. They sleep with other peoples husbands/wives with no remorse. They lie and cheat and desecrate the resting places of the dead. There are many characters and I could not find one I could like. The hero if you want to call him that is hell bent on revenge, is too cowardly to end his dead end marriage and begins and affair with a woman who's husband actually will kill her if she is found unfaithful, instead of putting the bad guys behind bars he gets petty revenge and then allows them to walk around free. After concluding his personal vendetta he then leaves town leaving the guilty to wreck more havoc on the lives of the unsuspecting. I understand flawed characters, I usually like them very much because it serves to remind me that none of us are perfect we are both good and bad but these characters are bad and the whole thing made me feel bad.
